The State Museum of Temurid History is a spiritual and educational, scientific institution educating the ideal personality, studying material and spiritual values on scientific foresight, which has a significant role in the history of Uzbek statehood. The fund of museum holds more than 7 thousand unique exhibits reflecting the history of Uzbekistan and the history of Amir Temur and the Temurids. A significant part of the rare exhibits are coins. Most of these coins are the treasure from “Yangi Sanganak”.
The “Yangi Sanganak” treasury was found in March 2021 in Parkent district of Tashkent region, in the territory of the gathering of citizens of the “Yangi Sanganak” mahalla, by citizen Imomali Mirzavalievich Boymakov and submitted to the State Museum of Temurid History initially for temporary, than subsequently and for permanent storage. These coins were discovered by chance at 50-60 cm deep in the ground, in a ceramic pot during preparatory work for a lemon greenhouse measuring 20×10 m and 1.8 m deep. The coins were found to have rust and a bluish tint due to years of underground storage. When the coins were handed over to the museum, they were counted and it turned out to be 1810 coins.
After cleaning several coins from rust and studying them, it was discovered that a treasure trove of copper coins minted in the mints of Samarkand, Bukhara and Tashkent date back to the 15th – 16th centuries, the reign period of the Temurids and the Sheibanids.
This exhibition for the first time shows to the general public samples from the treasury of “Yangi Sanganak” newly handed for the fund of the State Museum of Temurid History.
The coins displayed at the exhibition and information about them allow us to learn about the monetary units used by our ancestors in trade.
