In consideration of the huge contribution of Amir Temur to the state development, improvement of science, education, enlightenment and culture, as well as in connection with his 660th anniversary, the decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan was published on March 14, 1996 about the construction of a special building in Amir Temur Square designed for the State Museum of the History of Temurids. The museum was founded in a short period of time and its inauguration ceremony was culminated in a national holiday held on October 18, 1996.

The Museum represents a synthesis of the medieval, or rather the Temurids` period of oriental and modern architectural styles. It is performed on the model of the palaces has been constructed in the time of Amir Temur, and peculiar architectural monumental museum is represented itself. The building has got a circular shape with a large ribbed dome, parapets on the roof, open verandah and columns. This is a magnificent and unique building; it meets all requirements of architecture and museum art. The ten-meter white coloured pillars decorate a half-open terrace, located all along the perimeter of the building. Embossed works were made on polished columns. The column pedestals of the round terrace consist of three parts and is made of gray marble. The floor of the terrace is laid with smooth gray granite. The edges of the museum building are trimmed with black granite. The external wall of the museum along the perimeter is decorated with enameled ceramic medallions having a perfect geometric pattern, where blue, green and gold colors were mostly used.  The octahedral patterns are placed on the medallions and the upper sections of the doors. Didactic words written in old Arabic style of calligraphy “Suls” that can be translated into English as Obedience, Justice, Perspicacity, Enlightenment, Piety, Courtesy, Mercy, Virtue, Loyalty, Fortune, Persistence, Indulgence, Courage, and Council are given in these octahedral patterns (by calligrapher  Habibulloh Soliev). All those give the whole museum not only a special beauty, but also a deep meaning. The main entrance doors of the museum are facing the square of Amir Temur. Through these magnificent carved doors from the walnut tree, one can get into the exhibition hall.

The height of the building is 31 meters, external diameter is 70 meters and internal one is 50 meters that consists of three floors; on the first floor, there are rooms for working staff, on the second and third floors, we may see the museum exposition.
